Listen in on a conversation between parents and you’re likely to hear parents questioning one another’s tactics and strategies for raising their children. If we could listen in secret, we’d likely hear the incessant internal interrogation many parents place themselves under, “Where did I go wrong? Will my child be damaged because of what I did, or because of what I failed to do?” To make matters worse, these days the sheer volume of parenting information available can be overwhelming.
A hard reality is that every parent will sometimes, perhaps unknowingly or without intending it, cause their children pain. There will come a time for remorse and maybe an apology. But, what do we do with the pang of guilt that arises? Do we grow as parents or are we dragged down by guilt?
