Has This Ever Happened To You?

By August 21, 2014 Inspiration & Purpose

Have you ever made the decision to start a new habit only to find out the next day that the decision hasn’t turned over into action yet? Sometimes even with the best intentions, our desire for change isn’t met with real-world action. This has happened to me countless times as I strive to grow and develop.  And, it has happened once again.

I set the goal for myself of putting out a blog post every day, but as you may have noticed, that hasn’t happened just yet, but it will. And the only way for it to happen is for me to get back onto my computer and start typing. The other key factor that I had left out for myself was setting up a system or plan to backup my desire for change. Excuses and apologies are not really what is needed at this point, when we find ourselves failing to stick to a new goal we set for ourselves. A reliable system or plan is what is needed to reinforce this new habit. So, now each morning before I allow myself to enter into the daily hustle and bustle I will sit down and type a blog post.

We have all likely seen babies who struggle and fall, but sure enough those babies end up walking and running. It is no different for us as adults. As long as we continue to persist, we nearly always accomplish what we set out to do.

And if we still don’t reach our intended goal?

No big deal.

It is never an issue to do all that we can do, and not get the result.
It is an issue when we do not do what we could have done to reach the result we so earnestly desire.
It is an issue when we give up a commitment entirely with the excuse that overcoming the initial pull of “comfort gravity” is too difficult. (comfort gravity – the pull towards our old, familiar, comfortable habits, thoughts, and actions)

Others may also care when we do not live up to our desired standards, but it is we who care the most when we fail to abide by the standards we set for ourselves. For example, you may care quite a bit about my posts and be disappointed in not having seen any for the last few days. I care even more, and am even more disappointed in my slow picking up of this blogging habit. But, I fret not and type on. This habit of posting a daily, useful blog post has no chance against the force of my will. I am utterly determined and committed to helping you have more energy and health so that you can enjoy and create in this lifetime that we have been afforded.

Until tomorrow…
