Trick or Treat? Who The Hell Can Tell The Difference Anymore?

Come on. Have a treat.

Trick-or-treat.

I deserve this. I earned this reward.Time to treat myself to a little…

It’s likely that we’ve all either heard these statements or made them ourselves. We have been conditioned to ‘treat’ ourselves in a certain way. Here’s a short list of common ‘treats’.

    •    candy
    •    chocolate
    •    fast food meal
    •    coffee, latte, espresso
    •    alcoholic drink
    •    fatty, greasy snacks

Oddly enough, this list of ‘treats’ resembles other lists; causes of cancer, causes of diabetes, causes of heart disease. Hmm…

I am completely in favor of rewarding ourselves when we act in alignment with our desires, values, and principles. Who doesn’t love a treat? The question that is really begging to be asked is, “Does this treat love me back?”

We have allowed our concept of ‘treat’ to become bastardized and essentially mean ‘harm’. Hence we hear, “I will ‘treat’ myself with a bag of chocolate.” or, “I ‘treated’ myself with a bag of potato chips.”, or “Trick or treat!” I’ll take the trick please.

If we want to experience high levels of energy, treat ourselves positively. How we treat ourselves is a direct reflection of how much we value our life AND this example of how we treat ourselves is directly passed on to our children.

Here is a list of positive treats, actions or influences that have the effect building us up, rather than destroying our capacities to live, create, and love in this world.

    •    walk in the park or woods
    •    a run to favorite music
    •    listening to an enthralling audiobook
    •    a rare or expensive fruit or vegetable
    •    watching an uplifting movie
    •    bubble bath
    •    massage, manicure, pedicure
    •    yoga class
    •    meditation

Can you build a list of at least 5 positive treats for yourself?
